Double world 3,000 metres steeplechase champion Ezekiel Kemboi is being investigated by police in Eldoret over allegations of being involved in an affair gone horribly wrong.
The athlete, who will be representing Kenya in the London Olympics, presented himself to the police and recorded a statement in which he denied stabbing the woman. Kemboi reportedly said they were attacked by thugs.
But the woman identified as Ann Njeri says Kemboi is the one who stabbed her as he dropped her home in the wee hours of today.
She said she had known the world beater, who is a police officer, for two weeks and they were together watching the Euro quarter final between Spain and Portugal at a popular nightclub where alcohol flowed freely.
Njeri, a 26-year-old mother of one, said Kemboi tried to make sexual advances which she repelled and a scuffle ensued. She is currently recuperating in hospital.
The country will be waiting with bated breath on whether this will put a stop to his Olympics dreams.
